Music at Central Sydney

At Central Sydney, our music program enables students to share, connect and overcome cultural and language barriers. The program develops students’ English language through group singing and drumming, music appreciation, exploration of a range of music styles and developing practical skills on a range of instruments. It prepares students for high school music and theoretical concepts and develops research and presentation skills through individualised projects based around persuasive, imaginative and informative language.

Students are provided with opportunities to perform in ensembles and individually at our assemblies and community events. Our school has a wide range of world instruments that students can borrow for rehearsal and performance.

Dance at Central Sydney

At central Sydney, students are provided with the opportunity to participate in dance during our sport afternoons on Wednesday. Over the term program, students rehearse an ensemble dance piece and are encouraged to perform at our final assembly at the end of every term. Dance students often collaborate with the school's music ensemble and experience the process of rehearsal and collaborative production.

Studying the creative arts, students learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform. Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.

Students must study 100 hours of both music and visual arts during Years 7 to 10. They also have an opportunity to further develop their knowledge and skills in other art forms through elective subjects including drama, dance, photography and visual design. Students can then select from a range of courses in Years 11 to 12.
