School history
Central Sydney Intensive English High School (CSIEHS) was formerly known as Cleveland Street Intensive English High School (CSIEHS).
It began in 1977 as the Intensive Language and Reception Centre and was the first intensive centre in New South Wales. In 1992 it became known as Cleveland St Intensive English Centre and changed from a centre to become a high school in 2002.
For much of its history, it was located in Surry Hills on the corner of Cleveland and Chalmers Streets.

Because of population growth and the need for a new school in inner Sydney, the state government decided to re-develop the Cleveland Street site as a multi-storey mainstream high school.
As a result, the intensive English high school was re-named to Central Sydney Intensive English High School (CSIEHS) and re-located to nearby Alexandria at the end of 2017, where it operated from a temporary site at 7 Park Road, Alexandria.
In early 2019, CSIEHS moved again to a new, purpose-built building at 57-77 Mitchell Road, Alexandria, close to Australian Technology Park.
To celebrate the successful relocation of CSIEHS, the school commissioned a mural to be placed on the top floor of its new building at Mitchell Road, Alexandria.
The mural included elements from a previous mural at its old site in Surry Hills as well as new features.
This image of the mural shows the new school in the foreground with the old school in the background honouring the school's 40 years of continuous operation as a provider of quality intensive English.
