HSIE
HSIE at Central Sydney
Our Human Society and its Environment (HSIE) program orientates students to life in Australia and prepares them for the English language demands of HSIE subjects in high school. Students learn important skills and concepts related to the study of history and geography. Students learn to listen to, present, read and write informative texts. They also develop collaborative and critical thinking skills as they study ideas and issues relating to Australian society and the environment. In addition, stage 6 students are offered electives which prepare them for the English language demands of stage 6 HSIE preliminary subjects including Business Studies and Society and Culture.
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL:
Place and people in Australia; Australia’s First Nations Peoples; colonisation and first contact
TRANSITION LEVEL:
Australia’s multicultural society and reconciliation; geographical issues including the impact of climate change and extreme weather events, and sustainable cities
