Creative Arts

Visual Arts at Central Sydney

 
Our Visual Arts program is aligned with the Intensive English Program Curriculum Framework and references outcomes from the NSW curriculum. Students engage in practical art making while being introduced to the language of art theory and criticism. Students have the opportunity to showcase their work at community events and attend Gifted and Talented classes throughout the term. 


FOUNDATION LEVEL:
Subject matter and techniques in visual art, 
Materials and equipment, seasons, still life, portraits

PRELIMINARY LEVEL: 

Places and Spaces – perspective, artist rooms, interior/exteriors, colour theory, drawing and painting 

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL: 
Lines, shapes and forms in art, the elements and principles of art, abstract art, symmetry and patterns in art, rangoli designs, natural and geometric designs  
 
TRANSITION LEVEL:

Indigenous art, cultural frameworks of art. Subjective frameworks of art

Music at Central Sydney 

Our Music program enables students to share, connect and overcome cultural and language barriers through the study and production of instrumental and vocal music. Students are provided with opportunities to perform in ensembles and individually at school assemblies and community events. 

Topics include:

FOUNDATION LEVEL:

Djembe and percussion skills (Duration, tempo), Instruments, styles of music

PRELIMINARY LEVEL:

Drum-kit skills, (Duration, tempo, dynamics), Instrument families, music artists

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL:

Piano skills (Duration, tempo, dynamics, pitch), Music notation

TRANSITION LEVEL:

Guitar skills (Duration, tempo, dynamics, pitch), Music theory, Mood in music

Dance at Central Sydney 

At central Sydney, students are provided with the opportunity to participate in dance during our sport afternoons on Wednesday. Over the term program, students rehearse an ensemble dance piece and are encouraged to perform at our final assembly at the end of every term. Dance students often collaborate with the school's music ensemble and experience the process of rehearsal and collaborative production.
