Mathematics at Central Sydney
Our Mathematics program develops students’ understanding of mathematical concepts by applying problem solving skills, mathematical techniques, communication and reasoning.
Topics include:
FOUNDATION LEVEL:
Numbers, Ordinal numbers, time and dates, Interpreting the Calendar, The Language of Arithmetic Operations and of Geometry
PRELIMINARY LEVEL:
Large Numbers, More on Arithmetic Operations, Order of Operation, The Language of Comparing, The Language of Fractions and decimals, Space and Geometry (angles, shapes).
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL:
The Number Theory, Applications of Fractions, Directed Numbers, Algebra, the Number Plane and its applications, Coordinate Geometry (Stage 5 and 6), Applications of Geometry (Pythagoras, perimeter, area, angle properties)
TRANSITION LEVEL:
Real Numbers (approximations), Applications of Percentages (financial Maths), Trigonometry (stage 5 and 6), statistics and probability, the use of technology
